About the consortium
Background on Sussex VCS Learning Consortium
The history of the Consortium started with a successful bid by RAISE (Regional Action and Involvement South East) to organise a short project to address the issue of support to help voluntary and community organisations to contract and engage with their local Learning and Skills Councils for funding to provide training services. The local LSC in Sussex has shown an active interest in working with the voluntary and community sector. It would prefer not to work through a host of different small organisations.
Their aim is to reach individual learners but through larger contracts wherever possible. Several voluntary and community sector organisations in Sussex were enthusiastic about forming a learning consortium and an agreement was drawn up and signed by these organisations, forming the initial membership. This was in February 2003. Since SCVSLC is not legally constituted it has adopted a 'lead body model', with one organisation as the lead able to receive funding on behalf of the Consortium. Action in rural Sussex was chosen as the lead organisation.
Funding successes include
- 2003 - LID funding for the Capacity Building & Research Project
- 2004 - Round 3 ESF Co-financed Funding for our Learning Together Project
- 2004 - Widening Adult Participation Action Fund (WAPAF) for our Widening Adult Participation Project
- 2004 - Capacity Building Fund for our Short Project
- 2005 - Round 5 ESF Co-financed Funding for our Training Assessors in Childcare Project
The Consortium has a Board that meets at least 4 times each year. There are also meetings and events for members throughout the year at various locations in Sussex.
